Marzipan Woodcut Valentine’s Day Treat

Happy Valentine’s Day, lovelies! We’re so happy to share this sweet DIY treat from baker extraordinaire Ruth-Anne Ford. Thanks so much for sharing this goodness with us!

Make your sweetheart a special cupcake with your initials carved on top for a special Valentine’s Day treat! The woodcut is made out of marzipan (almond paste + sugar) and pairs well with many cake flavors, I used red velvet cake. The marzipan is placed on top of the frosting.

- Take a bit of marzipan and roll it out, using cornstarch so it doesn’t stick to the surface.

- Use a round cutter to cut the marzipan, a bisquit cutter is a perfect size to fit on top of standard cupcake.

- Cut three small triangles out of the edges of your marzipan with a sharp knife.

- Paint the edges of the marzipan with dark brown food color with a clean paintbrush. Paint woodgrain inside the marzipan. Paint on your initials.
