You Can Do It! Threaded Place Cards

If you didn’t notice, we’re thrilled! But if you did, we’re working on reinstating this month’s deleted blog posts and gorgeous real weddings we’ve been featuring as over the weekend our server had a big hiccup. They should be back soon! We’ll hope to tide you over with a charming and fairly simple project you can bring to life for any wedding or celebration: threaded place cards. Mimicking the art of embroidery {Aleah learned growing up from her Great-Grandma GG}, this is a project that can be produced en masse. You need just a few elements, but when replicated these little place cards will look oh-so impressive on your dining tables.

heavier duty card stock round gift tags {you can make your own with Kraft paper and a 3″ circle punch} || pin-hole punch || elastic metallic wire {you can purchase from most craft stores – this is basically a lighter gauge wire that’s easily bendable but holds its shape} || scissors || white pen

To recreate just have we have, we nestled the place card in a vintage floral frog {usually about $1 a pop} and cinched a white bistro napkin with a mossy satin ribbon.

directions2Step 1. take your hold punch and carefully punch the pin holes around the edge of the gift tag, leaving about 1/8″ from the edge. If you want to trace out your markers do so with a pencil. We preferred to free hand. Punch about every 1/4″.

Step 2. thread your wire through the holes as you would if you were sewing – up and through and down and through.

Step 3. once you’ve gone all the way around tie a small knot and snip the edge. NOW, we learned that by gluing another card to the back you can hide the little knot. But we just nestled that knot into the frog and you couldn’t see it.

Step 4. use a white chalkboard marker or pen to scroll guests’ names across their place marker.

We are dreaming up using these for an upcoming market-meets-Mother Nature wedding. Rather perfect, don’t you think?

To be even more clever, work with your caterers to use wire that correlates to each guests’ entree: blue for fish, green for veggie, orange for beef, and so on.

Ah, thank you! Aren’t they great? Velvet cording could work really nicely, too. It’s amazing what a simple element like that can really do!
